zweitaps

YAZIO vs MyFitnessPal

Both are big names, both can do a lot, and choosing between them comes down to two or three questions. We build a calorie diary ourselves — which is why our own app appears at the end of this page. The comparison before it is straight anyway, because otherwise it would be worth nothing.

YAZIO

Strong at: a very large German food database, a barcode scanner that reliably finds things and recipes and fasting plans. Pricing: subscription. Data export: free — Profil → Einstellungen → Account → Datenexport, CSV per E-Mail.

Most common criticism in the reviews: Es ging mit der übertriebenen Gamification und unnötigen Animationen los … Abo werde ich nicht verlängern (confirmed 1,215 times).

MyFitnessPal

Strong at: the largest food database there is, recipe import and a lot of connected devices and apps. Pricing: subscription. Data export: subscribers only — Web: Reports → Export, oder App: More → Nutrition → Export.

Most common criticism in the reviews: ads cover a third of the diary (confirmed 108 times).

And if both want too much?

In our analysis of roughly 57,000 critical reviews, the most frequent complaint about diary apps is not the database and not the price. It is that logging itself has got longer and louder. That is what zweitaps is for: two taps, no streaks, no subscription, barcode offline. It reads the exports of YAZIO and MyFitnessPal, so you do not have to throw anything away to try it.

Common questions

YAZIO or MyFitnessPal — which is better?

There is no winner for everybody. YAZIO: a very large German food database, a barcode scanner that reliably finds things and recipes and fasting plans. MyFitnessPal: the largest food database there is, recipe import and a lot of connected devices and apps. If what you mainly want while logging is quiet, neither is the right place.

Can I move from YAZIO to MyFitnessPal?

Their exports do not line up, and importing one into the other is not supported. zweitaps reads both formats.
