In our analysis of roughly 57,000 critical reviews this was the loudest finding of all: not a missing feature, but one that existed for years and later moved behind a subscription.

Why most of them need one

Because a food database costs money continuously and a one-time purchase does not cover that. That is a real argument, not an excuse. The only question is what moves behind the line — and whether logging itself is part of it.
